Companies don't scale by accident.
Obsidian installs the operating systems asset-heavy companies need to scale with confidence — the structure, KPIs, execution discipline, and leadership bench that make performance predictable.
A fractional COO practice for founder-led and PE-backed companies where growth is outrunning structure. We don't create dependency on a consultant: we build the system, develop the leaders who run it, and work ourselves out of the job.
What we install
Most companies don't have an operations problem. They have a systems problem: growth outpaces structure, people work hard in different directions, maintenance turns reactive, and leaders get stuck solving today's fires instead of building tomorrow's systems.
Obsidian replaces heroics with architecture — operating cadence, KPI discipline, process standardization, and clear ownership, installed hands-on inside your operation.
What makes us different is what's left when we leave. Every engagement builds your bench: the operations leaders, standards, and coaching rhythms that carry performance after the engagement ends.
Forged in Permian Basin energy services and industrial logistics; proven across industrial services and multi-unit hospitality. Based in Midland, Texas — serving clients anywhere the work is.
Three ways to engage
The Operational Systems Audit
Two to three weeks. Site visit, operational and financial deep-dive, leadership bench assessment, findings readout, and a prioritized 90-day roadmap. A bounded engagement that shows you exactly where performance is leaking — and what to do about it.
Fractional COO Retainer
Executive-level operations leadership without the full-time seat. Operating cadence installation, KPI architecture, SOP and process spine, and structured development of your operations leaders.
The Bench Build
A contained leadership-system install: progression pathways, coaching cadence, trainer certification, and accountability structure. For companies whose systems are sound but whose bench can't yet carry the growth.
How we operate
Integrity, transparency, and stewardship. Fixed prices and defined scope — no open meters. We show our work, tell you the truth about what we find, and measure success by one standard: leaving your operation and your people stronger than we found them.
Our stated goal on every engagement is to work ourselves out of the job.
The operator behind it
Jason Rhines has spent twenty-plus years leading asset-intensive, multi-site operations through turnarounds, acquisition integrations, and high-growth expansions — from field supervisor to Vice President of Operations, across fleets of 1,500+ assets and organizations of 1,200+ people. Six Sigma trained, Extreme Ownership led, and built on an earlier decade running multi-unit hospitality where guest experience and daily revenue were the scoreboard.
The numbers above weren't achieved in a boardroom. They were built in maintenance bays, dispatch offices, and pre-dawn safety meetings — which is exactly where Obsidian does its best work.
Growing fast and feeling friction everywhere?
You're not broken — you're outgrowing your structure. A thirty-minute conversation will tell us both whether an audit makes sense. No pitch, no meter running.
